I love Chinese new year!  Since I’m half-chinese in blood, we always take time to remember the chinese new year. For me it signifies the days of the tikoy! Yes I love tikoy!!! It’s a round sticky sweet rice cake that you fry in oil. It can be cooked plain or dipped in beaten eggs.

I can’t believe how expensive the tikoy is nowadays. The big round ones are more than 100pesos while the smaller pieces are more than 50pesos. I remember when I was younger the big ones are less than 50 pesos. And we usually do not buy them because we always receive them from relatives or from my parents’ chinese friends.

Aside from the tikoy, we don’t have any more chinese new year traditions. I haven’t seen a dragon dance, a chinese new year fireworks or dare to dress in chongsam to commemorate the event (I don’t even own a chongsam). My sister who lives in Beijing asked me to spend the new year there since they have a week-long vacation. I would have loved to experience an authentic chinese new year!!! Unfortunately because I’m busy with school and it’s like subzero degrees there, I just opted to go there at a later date.

Anyways, however your Chinese New Year celebration went, I hope you have a wonderful Year of the OX!!!!!:)
