Ever since I’ve heard about this speaker last year, I decided to buy one. After reading lots of reviews on this item, it seemed that it’s really a good speaker. I’ve been in search for a good speaker for my Itouch. I never like listening to my ipod using earphones. It makes me anti-social. It’s also nice to listen to music while working in the kitchen or lounging in the living room while ironing the clothes. Usually my dad burns cds of his music and plays them in the dvd player. They’re all old music and totally not my style. I often vacate the living room as fast as possible to escape his music.

So after waiting for 2 weeks for this speaker to arrive to the supplier, I’m so excited when I got home and received the Xmini Max capsule speaker. I bought it for P2000 ($45). The Xm-i Xmini is manufactured and patented by a Singaporean company.  I even wished to go to Singapore just to buy this speaker!

Xmini Max is the second generation Xmini. It has the extra subwoofer and stereo mode sound to achieve that bass sound. It comes in black, white or red. Mine is red and I was disappointed with how it looks because the finishing is matte-like not glossy. What amazed me was the size of the speakers! They are small and very portable.  The diameter is 5cm and the height is 5.5cm with resonator opened. The 2 speakers are attached magnetically on the bottom to form a capsule shape and weighs 100g. It is powered by lithium ion battery and charges thru a usb cable.

Now to the sound quality…I was disappointed. It has good volume capacity. It can fill a living room and the bedroom included (I’m not really good with measurements). However when you increase the volume, the music doesn’t sound good. The sound doesn’t come out as crisp and clean. I guess it’s a little better than your regular PC speakers.

So the pros for this speakers: it’s very portable – you can use it anywhere and with anything as long as it has an earphone plug. It has lithium-ion battery so charging is easier. It has good sound volume capacity. The product info said that its music playtime is up to 10hours. I don’t know if this is true because I don’t play my music that long. It comes in a cute small package. I liked how it’s magnetically attached to each other making it more portable. It’s relatively cheap. It’s better than the first generation Xmini.

The cons are: the sound quality is not superb. It has very simple function – on or off. It offers no choice for sound modes. The finish of the speakers could be improved more. It’s a little bit fragile especially when you twist the speakers to let out the resonators.

So if you’re the type of person who is anal about the sound quality of songs, this speaker is not for you. Try Bose or any high-end brand. However if you’re content with radio music sound, this speaker is for you. I love its portability and overall package. If I have the money to buy a Bose, I will still buy a Bose. But for now I’m ok with this Xmini Max speakers.
