In my recent China trip, we stayed 2 days at Shanghai before going to Beijing. We were greeted by a cold and dreary weather. It drizzled almost the whole day. The hotel we stayed though was really nice. The bad side here was it’s an almost 45minute ride in the subway to get to the center of the city. Despite the unfortunate weather, we still toured the place although our pictures of the sights are mostly foggy.

Here are the places we visited:

  1. The Pearl TV tower and Jianmao Tower – actually we didn’t go inside. We just took a picture of the building. We were disappointed that it was so foggy that we couldn’t see the towers.
  2. Shanghai Ocean Aquarium – this was awesome. The entrance fee is 120RMB. It’s such a huge place and lots of sea animals. And they divided it into different regions of the world – you have south american region, asian region, australian region, etc.  You can find more information here, www.sh-aquarium.com
  3. The Bund at night – it is similar to HK victoria harbor at night where you can see the buildings and its colorful lights. During the day you’ll see the impressive architectural design of Shanghai’s buildings.
  4. Nanjing Road – this is very colorful at night and the shopping district is located here.
  5. Xin Tian Di – I love this district. It’s so European inspired. It has a good layout and lots of upscale restaurants line the place.
  6. Yu Yuan/Garden – It’s not actually a garden but it’s a colorful shopping area with old pagoda style buildings. It’s a very picturesque and quaint district.

There are not much to see and to do in Shanghai. If you’re planning to go to China and want to see lots of tourist attraction sites, I suggest you skip Shanghai and go straight to Beijing.
