Because of its reputation of delivering good hair cut and good hair rebond, I decided to go to have my hair fixed at Tony and Jackey. I chose the one at Burgundy Tower Buendia because according to the receptionist, the senior stylist of the salon has been transferred to that branch. Tony and Jackey popularized Korean haircut. It had authentic imported Korean hairstylists who work wonders on your hair. Their assistants sported cute trendy hairstyles and I saw a lot of customers leaving with really flattering and cute hairdos.

Even though I just had a hair rebonding 4 months ago, I decided to have another one when I came into the salon. I knew it’s a big No-No to have the hair be treated with any chemicals for less than 6 months after rebonding. But when I consulted this fear to my stylist, she said that it was ok. So I went for it. The salon had 2 medicines for hair rebonding: Korean medicine (P1500), advisable for virgin or untreated hair and the Loreal medicine (P3000), for those treated or damaged hair. I’m on the latter group which was a more expensive treatment. However I was able to spend only the price equivalent of Korean medicine even though they put Loreal products on my hair because apparently my Korean stylist didn’t understand me. And I was adamant that I won’t be paying P3000 when I specifically told her that I wanted Korean medicine.

Because of the price controversy, the stylist abandoned me to her assistant almost throughout the hair rebonding procedure. I felt that since I was only paying a cheap price, the stylist’s heart wasn’t too happy with accommodating me.  But I was thankful to her assistant who meticulously ironed my hair which was unlike the one I experienced in Beijing. Ironing my hair took her 1 1/2 hours! The result was poker straight. Because hair rebonding resulted in a very straight hair, my haircut style was limited. I was going for a longer hair length in front and shorter length at the back…like a reverse bob. Although the stylist followed my instruction, she didn’t give her own suggestion or creativity to make my hair look edgier. I wasn’t too happy with the cut. She didn’t even check if her cut was straight and she didn’t let me look at the back of my head with a mirror. After the haircut, the stylist almost pushed me off the chair and out of the door!

When I was able to inspect my hair, I looked like a high school kid. The haircut didn’t make me look mature. I super heart my rebonded hair though! My hair is now super straight but I noticed that my hair looks more damaged unlike my first hair rebonding experience. Hopefully I will be able to take care of it to return it to its healthy state. All in all I spent 1500 for the hair rebonding, 300 for the haircut and 200 tip for both the stylist and assistant. I shouldn’t have tipped the stylist because of her attitude. One observation I made was that only Filipino customers tip the employees in the salon. The Korean customers just pay the exact amount. How come tipping at hair salon become a norm? And because this was an expensive establishment, I feared that if I tipped them too little they would just throw the money back at me.

my new hairdo!

My experience with the salon was just ok despite the misunderstanding and slight tiff between me and the stylist. The place needed renovation and good reception skills. The problem with this salon is that there’s a high potential for miscommunication. They deliver well but I advise if you go in here, make sure you and your stylist understand each other.  Do not let them work on your hair without you understanding what they’re going to do and how much you’re going to pay for it. And it’s nice to be friendly with the assistants.
