Ok this post is a little bit late. A lot of favorite TV shows have premiered already their new season. I’m so excited to report about the shows I’m watching right now:

Project Runway

I think this season they have a bunch of good designers. The challenges don’t differ from the previous seasons but the formula of the show still keeps the viewers glued. Although they have good designers no one though stands out as being consistently the best. At this stage only 5 designers are remaining. I would also like to comment that a lot of the fashion the designers put out seem to be unoriginal – like it has been done before already. Where’s the creativity that previous contestants have brought to the table like Santino Rice, Christian Siriano, Kara Saun, Jay McCaroll, Chloe Dao, etc? And also what’s with the show, Models of the Runway, where they gave the models of project runway their own show/contest? As if they have control about staying in the game when we all know their tenacity depends on the longevity of the designer. But whatever tricks they come up with, I still watch it faithfully. For this season my bet would be a toss-up between Althea Harper or Carol Hannah Whitfield.

America’s Next Top Model

I’ve always been a fan of this show since season 2. Although it’s the same format every season, it’s exciting to watch each episode where I also get to critique their photos and judge who’s going to be the next top model. My mom and I will debate about it actually. I don’t care about the house dramas and Tyra’s over-the-top acting. When I get to TIVO the show, I would fast forward the show to judging time where the final product is usually what counts and not the dramas or the early challenges. My favorite this season is the lifeless Nicole. She may be socially inept but she has the making of a model. I so love her look!

Gossip Girl

The gang has graduated from high school and Blair and Chuck are an item. I don’t know if it’s only me but the first few episodes of Gossip Girl are not really spectacular. Yes they are all in college except for Nate, Serena and Chuck. Instead of having a nice back-to-school opening, it fell short and a lot of characters have weak stories. Serena is becoming an eye-candy instead of a character with substance in the show. Nate doesn’t carry any weight in each episode story either. And Jenny Humphrey has faded into being a cameo role. Dare I mention Erik who I am confused why the writers even created his character? I used to get excited by Lily and Rufus’s on-and-off romance but this time with Lily being absent for the first three episodes, the thrill fizzled down. What I’m anticipating in this new season is Blair and Chuck’s relationship. Finally they are able to have a chance at romance. But sometimes the show only give a glimpse of it because I guess there are too many characters and they all needed to have camera time equally? What I also find irritating is the acting. I find Chuck’s scowling gaze and graveling voice annoying because it’s so contrived and unnatural. Lily and Rufus have also lost their chemistry. Serena’s acting is one-note. If the show doesn’t improve soon, I’m going stop watching this.

Top Chef

For this show, I’ve becoming less and less enthusiastic because first it’s a long show featuring more or less the drama behind the kitchen, the preparation of the food, and the nasty comments the chefs fling against each other. The food are unrelatable especially when I’m not a chef. So when I watch this, I would sometimes take a bath in the beginning of the show and finish just before the chefs lay out their food on the table for the judges to taste. Because the way this show is created, the only important event is the judging time. Whatever is prepared that day that’s the basis of who gets to go home or who gets to stay. The judging doesn’t account for previous wins or any appeal to the emotion. I sometimes don’t even wait to find out who gets eliminated. But I’m still hedging my bet on Kevin Gillespie who has been consistent with winning in challenges and earning great reviews from the judges.

Dancing with the Stars

Woohoo! Another season of Dancing with the Stars. As usual its humor, glamorous production, engaging dances make me eagerly watch every episode. Unfortunately their roster this year is not that outstanding. Julianne Hough is not performing and a lot of unknown celebrities are joining. Then Karina and Maksim have broken up so no dancing love/drama in the show. My faves this season are Mya and Donny Osmond. I’m not a big fan of Aaron Carter who I think looks like a drug addict with that emaciated face. This time there’s not much chemistry in many couples and that’s really sad. But I’m still watching because DWTS is so entertaining. I can’t wait for their ESPN DWTS style!  I’m guessing Donny Osmond will win the show because of his charisma and showmanship.

Grey’s Anatomy

Finally I get to find out who’s going to die: Izzie or George?! Well I know the answer before the show opened because a lot of media reports are saying that JT Knight wants to leave the show because his character is just not getting enough substance. Anyway it was a very powerful season opener yet from the show. This time we also get to see how Meredith and Derek interact as “post-it” married couples. They sure look cute and romantic. Another thrill factor for me is relationship between Lexie and Sloan. May I say that Sloan needs to ask acting tip from Derek in being romantic because he’s kind of indifferent as Lexie’s boyfriend? However they still look cute together. Then there’s the merger between Seattle Grace and Mercy West, which I don’t know if I like it that they introduce new actors into the show. This time around the show focus mainly on the hospital story and not much on romantic relationship dramas. It’s proving to be exciting, entertaining and dramatic. Go Shondaland!

Yup the TV couch potato is back!
