Aside from birthdays and other celebrations, Thanksgiving and Christmas bring about a nice gathering of relatives. Every time we get together, food is abundant. My aunts, grandma, and my mom are great cooks. And a lot of them have also great noses for great take-outs. This thanksgiving, we will be celebrating the day at my aunt’s house. I love thanksgiving because it’s the only day when I can eat turkey! As always holidays are potluck days. My aunt is in charge of the turkey which she roasts it to perfection. Some of us will think of other foods to bring. When my grandma is younger, she will cook lots of delicious foods. But now my aunts advise her against cooking because she tires easily. One of my aunts will bring take-out food from chinese restaurant. It can be spicy fried pork spare ribs or noodles…good chinese food. Then another would bring Filipino dessert – pichi pichi, sapin sapin, puto, etc. This time around the menu is: roast turkey, spinach pasta, unknown chinese food, and unknown dessert. Unknown because they didn’t tell us what they’re bringing. So our menu is always international inclined: american-chinese-italian-filipino food.
For us, we decided to bring potato macaroni salad and a Marie Callendar pumpkin pie. Since my mom is sick, I was the one who prepared the dish. My potluck offerings from previous celebrations were mashed potatoes, apple pie, sauteed salt-pepper shrimp, etc. So now I decided to do potato macaroni salad because I’ve most of my ingredients already. We weren’t able to do grocery beforehand so we made do with what we have.
When dinner is over, we will convene for some karaoke singing and mahjong playing. Some of us will be conversing and planning for our Black Friday sales shopping. All in all it will be a good thanksgiving party. I’m thankful for such a great family and good year for us.
Happy thanksgiving everyone!

Great post. I gained some very valuable information from it. I’ve been trying out some new Asian recipes lately and am having a great time experimenting with them. Do you have a favorite cookbook? If you’d like to see my blog it’s here. Thanks again for this blog – it is really educational.
