Lately I’ve been browsing a lot of cooking magazines borrowed from the library looking for good baking recipes. When it comes to trying new recipes I am attracted to good pictures of the food result. Why Julie and Julia? This operation is adapted from the movie Julia and Julia. For those who love to cook, I suggest you watch this very educational and funny movie about the beginnings of Julia Child and the Julia Child-wannabe, Julie Powell. Basically it’s about Julie Powell who set herself up a challenge to cook all the recipes in Julia Child’s cookbook within a year; correlating this feat, the movie showed Julia Child’s challenges as a beginner chef and a co-author to her cookbook, Mastering the Art of French Cooking.

Anyway back to my story, I was feeling inspired while browsing through those cooking magazines. The recipes look delicious and I began evaluating myself that I haven’t been inventive with my cooking recently. All I cooked has always been the same old boring stuff I cooked before. An idea formed in my mind while turning those pages. I’ve decided to become Julie Powell! Once a week I’ll try a new recipe that catches my eye. I’ll be shopping for the ingredients the day before and then executing my plan the day after. Unlike Julie, I have limited funds to buy ingredients so this will be a once-a-week event. Moreover it’s hard to coordinate dinner schedules with my guinea pigs (they work until 9pm). I’ll be blogging about my culinary experiment and posting some pictures. For this reason, I’m going to set up this project’s own category, “Operation: Julie and Julia”.

I’ll be launching this operation soon. Hopefully I’ll have Julie’s determination to see this through. Stay tuned!
