My aunt had free complimentary room to a hotel in Reno and she asked me and my mom to go with her. Of course we agreed. I’ve only been to Reno twice and it was a hazy distant memory due to being too innocent to appreciate the place. I didn’t know that the ride would be too long…3 hours from Daly City. So anyway we got there at around mid-afternoon. After a quick rest, my grandma and mom who were addicted to slot machines decided to start their vacation playing the slot machines asap.

We stayed at Circus Circus. My reason going there was to lounge by the hotel’s pool and get a tan.

But when I browsed through the hotel’s amenities I was sad to find that they don’t have a pool. So I just joined my mom and grandma playing the slot machines. And I was proud to say that I’ve been asked for my ID three times because they thought I was too young to play. My face still deceives them. Hehe. I also dragged my mom around the hotel to take pictures of some scenes. Fyi, Circus Circus is interconnected to Silver Legacy and El Dorado so it’s a loooong series of hotels, slot machines, restaurants, and poker tables. Enjoying the complimentary hotel room wasn’t the only perk my aunt received from the hotel. She was also given free tickets to see the movie Toy Story 3, which we all enjoyed. At downtown, Reno had a newly built Cinemark theater house where we watched the movie with our free popcorn and drinks.Reno

So what’s in Reno? For those of you who wanted to get away and have some little fun gambling and relaxing, Reno is relatively the nearest place to go from the Bay Area instead of driving all the way up to Las Vegas. You’ll pass by Lake Tahoe which offers outdoor activities that Reno don’t have. Lake Tahoe has some gambling hotels too but not as many as Reno and definitely not as exciting and lively as Las Vegas. Inside the hotels, they have adult gaming and kids arcade. Lots of families hang out in the hotels because kids can have fun in the arcade section. Circus Circus also have hourly free acrobatic shows. IMG_0472We only stayed for 2 days and it was boring because there’s not much to do outside the hotel. My mom and I decided to play tourist and see what’s up in downtown but it was really dead. A few dining spots then we hit the river. We walked along the Truckee River where some people were sunbathing and enjoying the nice weather. Then we went back to the hotel and played some more slot machines. There weren’t much shows being offered here – not as spectacular as Las Vegas. And night life well…you’re better off inside the hotel because the outside of the hotel somewhat looked seedy.

So if you want waste your time and money (which I lost a few) and get away from the Bay area for a short while, Reno is a good bet.
