It’s been 4 months since I’ve last taken my RDA written exam – March 30 2010…yup 4 months. I should have gotten my RDA license 30 days after my exam but up until now there’s nothing in the mail. I have looked up the Dental Board of California website and read this alarming news:
THE REGISTERED DENTAL ASSISTANT (RDA) LAW & ETHICS EXAMINATION HAS BEEN TEMPORARILY SUSPENDED
Recently the Dental Board of California (DBC) learned that the integrity of the Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) Law and Ethics written examination, which is one of several statutory requirements that needs to be successfully completed to obtain California registered dental assistant licensure, has been compromised. Exam administration at all test sites has been temporarily suspended until the DBC can investigate the breach and develop a new written examination…
As DBC is aware that this will affect licensure for many candidates, we are focusing our efforts to remediate the situation as soon as possible. Although currently DBC does not have an expected date for the new exam, DBC’s Web site will be used as an outreach modality to keep all stakeholders informed. Please visit DBC’s Web site for updates.
We will work diligently to minimize the delay in licensure and wish you success in achieving licensure in the State of California.
Actually this has been posted for 2 months already. I don’t know if my exam was part of the leakage but without receiving the test result for the Law and Ethics exam yet, I think it is. I called up DBC a lot of times and I’ve been passed around to one voicemail after another. One particular counselor named Laura, was helpful to pass me to her manager. But there has been no response from the manager. Laura couldn’t give me an update of my license and it seems they are so tight-lipped about the RDA licensing.
So tough luck for all of us who took the exam and for the future applicants because this will cause serious delay. Up to now I’ve been waiting and waiting and waiting. The Dental Board definitely needs to step up their game because it’s unfair for us applicants and it doesn’t hurt to post updated information in the web to keep us from wondering what has happened to our application.

Oh, Kat. That is so bad that they are doing that with us with that exam scores. I asked lady in the Law and Ethic exam and she told me that all California is waiting for the results from that test. She even told me that maybe all the USA has this problem. Let’s hope for the best.
Hi Michele, I ware studying from kindle addition that I bought in Amazon. They made that book directly from the outlines. I studied only that. That book is extremely good!!!!!
Good luck for all of us.

@jen: Wow you got an answer for the delay. Thank you so much for that info. I was getting annoyed with the people from the denta boardl because they are so tight-lipped about the status of the law and ethics exam. At least now i know it’s not only in my case.

Hi Kat,
Few questions on the RDA law and ethics exam:
1. Do I have to know all the numbers stated on the PSI Candidate Information Bulletin? Meaning, do I have to memorize what number is saying what? For example, will the question ask something like this: Registered Dental Assistant needs to continue their education. Which law states that? (then the choices would be: BPC 1604, CCR 1067, BPC 1645, or CDA 1783)
2. Is there any situations question? Like, if the dentist is out of town, a patient called due to indirect restoration falls out, what should RDA do?
3. How many choices in each question? Like, for each question posted how many answer I choose from? 3 or 4?
4. How many question do I need to pass the exam out of 50?
5. Do you think buying the CA law and ethic book will help? Such as from Cadat, or amazon? Or just read all the info that posted on PSI would be enough — which you can find it freely online?
Thanks for your help. Greatly appreciated it.

No numbers to memorize. Very objective. Just keep to heart the laws written in each law. I didn’t need a reviewer book for this one.

Hey! KatKat, You told me something no wonder I can”t get any info. and I wasn’t even aware of this situation with the board. What I’m wondering now is if these people will reguire me to have to pay for my fingerprints, again? Because I believe they expire. Zora

Hello, you have been very helpful to me. I was a RDA 20 years ago in the Bay Area, but moved to Seattle. Where the is no need for an RDA. I am getting ready to move back to Calif. And have been trying to figure out what I need to do. As there was no Ethic test when I last was there. But, in reading what you have put in here it has helped me. Any infor you can e-mail me about the Ethic exam would be great. I am study from a book I got 2nd hand and hoping it has all I need. I am not worried about the practical exam, as I’ve been doing this for 30 years now. I am a little worried about the written test, as real life and tests are sometime very different. Any way what ever you can post or e-mail me would mean the world to me. And help me find employment in Calif. as a RDA. Thank you for you posts very helpful.
